The majority of dogs with healthy, strong immune systems will develop antibodies against tick disease and have natural immunity which lasts for many years.

Early or mild cases of tick disease can be treated and sometimes cured with homeopathic remedies.

In geriatric dogs or advanced cases of tickborne disease the antibiotic, doxycycline is most effective to palliate the symptoms but it is not a cure. Many cases relapse after antibiotics are done so must be given over and over long-term and sometimes for life for flare-ups along with pain medicine.

Following up chronic tick cases with homeopathy can strengthen the immune system in some cases if the animal is strong enough to fight the disease.

• The Lyme vaccine is only about 40% effective and has negative side effects causing Lyme symptoms such as joint pain, fever, lethargy and loss of appetite.
• Lyme disease can cause chronic arthritis or rarely kidney failure called Lyme nephritis in weaker or older patients. The best prevention against Lyme disease is to avoid tick infested areas.
• Anaplasma and Erhlichia are other tickborne disease commonly seen in the Northeast and are treated the same as Lyme disease.

Natural products will repel but not kill ticks.

Conventional tick collars or topical treatment will repel and kill ticks.

• Kills fleas on contact but short-acting so use 2-3 times a week. Does not use chemicals, so fleas and other parasites do not become resistant.
• Use on the pet’s bedding, carpets, furniture as well as directly on the pet.
• Not recommended with a heavy flea infestation.
• Also available as a shampoo and kennel/yard spray.

Use the Protick remover to pluck the tick’s entire head buried under your pet’s skin to prevent discomfort and skin infection. Never remove ticks with your fingers or a tweezer since it breaks off the head leaving it under the skin to cause infection.

• Sprinkle from rear to front exposing skin and rubbing onto back and underside of the body.
• Avoid eyes and front of the face. Apply to back of head, neck, and ears.
• Vacuum furniture and rugs. Sprinkle dust on carpet or fabric, rub in with a brush. If you see dust you are using too much.
• This product is dusty as implied by its name so I recommend you apply it outside and wear a mask, or avoid if you are asthmatic or allergic.

• Applied once or twice a month to naturally repel & kill ticks about 95% effective.
• Contains Neem herb a natural wound healing agent. Yarrow a repellent to many parasites and diatom flour which desiccates fleas, ticks & mosquitoes.
